CSBA’s annual Forecast Webcast last month zeroed in on Gov. Jerry Brown’s ambitious plans for K-12 education, ranging from his 2012-13 budget proposal and the high-stakes ballot measure that it hinges on to far-reaching changes he hopes to make in state mandates affecting schools.

California voters could be key to closing an anticipated $9.2 billion gap in the 2012-13 budget under a proposal by Gov. Jerry Brown, but such a tax measure may not yield the $6.9 billion the governor is counting on, the state’s nonpartisan Legislative Analyst’s Office said last month.
Supporters say that Senate Bill 81 represents a more equitable way to spread the budget-cut impact across all districts and county offices. The bill would impose an across-the-board cut in revenue-limit funds to local educational agencies—a reduction of about $42 per pupil.
Completed ballots should be returned to CSBA’s West Sacramento office and must be postmarked by the U.S. Postal Service no later than Thursday, March 15, to be valid.
