Advocate for the Passage of Props. 30 and 38

In addition to being governance leaders, school district and county office of education board members are also powerful spokespersons and influencers for public education in local communities across the state. New advocacy tools are available at www.csba.org/TakeAction.aspx to assist you in advancing the passage of Propositions 30 and 38.

“With Election Day just weeks away, it’s time for each of us to step up our local advocacy efforts,” said CSBA President Jill Wynns. “We have a narrow window of opportunity to educate local voters and to urge their support of both propositions.”

School district and county office of education board members may engage in political activity as individuals but not as representatives of the board or school district/county office of education. CSBA’s website repository now includes a variety of new tools to help board mem-bers with their local advocacy efforts, as well as tip sheets and guidelines regarding political activity.

Furthermore, President Wynns asks members to keep in touch with CSBA’s Communications Department (Laurie Weidner, senior direc-tor of Communications, at lweidner@csba.org) regarding local media relations activities, editorial board visits, parent and community ral-lies, etc.

“It may be possible for us to support your local public information efforts with participation by a member of the Executive Committee, Board of Directors, Delegate Assembly, and CSBA executive staff,’ Weidner said. CSBA can also provide an important statewide perspective on the school funding crisis for local reporters.

In October through early November, President Wynns, President-elect Cindy Marks, and CSBA Executive Director Vernon M. Billy will take part in public appearances and media interviews with state Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson to highlight the se-verity of the school funding crisis and the need for the passage of one of the revenue measures.
