CSBA’s AI Taskforce unveils suite of resources to guide schools in the adoption of AI
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (July 8, 2025) – CSBA’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) Taskforce: Education in the Age of Artificial Intelligence, has developed a suite of original publications designed to support public schools in adopting AI in a manner consistent with their educational mission as well as with the privacy and safety of students in mind. With AI emerging as the dominant development of the current age and a transformative element in public schools, CSBA’s resources offer critical knowledge and tools for the integration of AI into the work of school districts and county offices of education.
The AI Taskforce produced a suite of publications:
The culmination of the AI Taskforce’s work is found on the AI Taskforce microsite, where visitors can find:
- Resources and News to learn the basics of AI; review relevant research, reports and articles; and get updates on legislation and AI-related events;
- Scenarios and Resolutions that include resolutions that local educational agencies (LEAs) have passed on AI and a list of important AI-related scenarios that board members have experienced to date; and the
- Promising Practices and Policies page, which has details on successful practices in California LEAs and relevant CSBA sample policies for boards to adopt.
The Taskforce also produced four webinars:
Finally, Taskforce members collaborated with CSBA’s GAMUT Policy team to introduce a new AI sample policy, BP 0441 – Artificial Intelligence, as part of a mini policy packet on AI released in June and covered in the June 27 policy webinar for subscribers. Education advocates should expect further guidance and resources from CSBA on the ever-evolving topic of AI in public schools.
“I’m proud of the contributions made by the AI Taskforce members over the last two years and I’m grateful to our Chair, Susan Markarian, for leading this important effort on behalf of the association,” said CSBA President Dr. Bettye Lusk. “Resources developed by the Taskforce will help support board members throughout the state as they navigate the complexities of AI.”
“As AI transforms society, it is essential that we do our best to keep pace with and address the implications of this new technology,” said AI Taskforce Chair and CSBA Past President Susan Markarian, a trustee in the Pacific Union Elementary School District. “Our members are seeking guidance on how to maximize the benefits of AI while guarding against potential pitfalls. CSBA is answering this call and will continue to provide members with resources that help them make informed decisions on AI that support student success and harness the power of innovation.”
CSBA is a nonprofit association representing nearly 1,000 PreK-12 school districts
