Californians on NSBA boards

Former CSBA President Frank C. Pugh of Santa Rosa City Schools was elected a Pacific Region director of the National School Boards Association following NSBA’s annual conference in Boston last month.

Pugh succeeds Kerry Clegg, a board member in the Sulphur Springs Union Elementary School District, as one of three directors representing Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Oregon, Utah and Washington on NSBA’s 25-member Board of Directors. Both men are former presidents of CSBA.

Paul H. Chatman of California’s Ocean View School District—and another former CSBA president—is in his second year as chair of the National Black Caucus of School Board Members; the position also makes him an ex-officio member of NSBA’s Board of Directors. Emma Turner, a La Mesa-Spring Valley School District board member and CSBA’s director-at-large, black, is a regional director on the National Black Caucus’s governing board.

Lillian Tafoya, a member of the Bakersfield City School District’s governing board, was elected secretary of the National Hispanic Caucus of School Board Members; she had been treasurer.
