28 September 2011 - Arguing that the latest state budget shortchanges students and violates the California Constitution by improperly diverting more than $2 billion that should have gone to public schools under Proposition 98, CSBA and its several allies filed a lawsuit today against the Legislature and Gov. Jerry Brown in San Francisco Superior Court.

It’s too early to say whether the Obama administration’s pending plans to waive some provisions of the No Child Left Behind Act are anything to celebrate, or what the recent federal debt ceiling agreement means for K-12 education.
California Standardized Testing and Reporting results continue their incremental rise, and the state is finally able to set a reliable baseline from which to gauge high school graduation and dropout rates, but continued progress depends on other numbers—ones preceded by dollar signs.
