22 June 2016 - The California Commission on Teacher Credentialing has continued to discuss and take action on topics that affect how teachers are prepared as well as how districts and counties can meet their staffing needs. The teacher shortage, new standards and changes to the federal education law, have shaped much of what the commission has tackled this year.
22 June 2016 - California Unemployment Insurance Code § 1253.3 provides that unemployment benefits are not payable to credentialed public school personnel for any week between two successive academic years if there is a contract or a reasonable assurance that the employee will return to the district for the upcoming year.
15 June 2016 - On Wednesday, June 15, the California Senate and Assembly both approved the 2016-17 budget, sending it to Gov. Jerry Brown for his approval with relatively few significant additions or amendments from the May revision.
15 June 2016 - Several bills intended to help school districts with the teacher shortage will face a key hurdle in the next two weeks.
8 June 2016 - The November 2016 ballot is set to feature 17 current and former school board members vying for 16 seats in the California Legislature – this includes nine school board members running for first-time seats and eight incumbent members of CSBA’s informal legislative School Board Caucus seeking re-election.
1 June 2016 - Following the release of Gov. Jerry’s Brown’s May Revision, the Senate and Assembly budget subcommittees have both finalized their respective 2016-17 budget proposals. CSBA is generally supportive of the Senate proposal, which is strong for Proposition 98 and preK-12 funding.
1 June 2016 - CSBA and other plaintiffs in the Robles-Wong v. State of California lawsuit expressed disappointment in an April ruling by the First District Court of Appeal in San Francisco, but said they would file a petition to challenge it.
