CSBA’s Education Workforce Housing (EWH) Bootcamp gives members all the basics they need to understand and start exploring EWH over two mornings. It’s designed for school board members, superintendents, and senior administrators who have not yet taken formal steps toward a project.
Across two virtual sessions, participants walk through the seven phases of the EWH Development Framework, learn the most common models for EWH, and assess what a workforce housing development might look like in their own community. They leave with a completed initial assessment workbook and specific steps for continuing to explore the concept.
Why attend
High housing costs continue to push educators out of communities across California, but many local educational agencies (LEAs) have underutilized property they can use to build housing to recruit and retain their staff and improve student outcomes.
This solution has seen a surge in interest over the last decade. California leads the nation in both the number of developments built and the number of laws passed to make it easier for LEAs to build housing for their employees.
Housing is a proven recruitment and retention strategy, aimed at the largest share of any LEA budget: staff. Every position that does not need refilling saves money, time and energy. Lower-cost housing close to work also reduces staff turnover and stress, and less educator turnover improves the learning environment for students.
This training supplies the fundamental knowledge and practical tools to assess whether workforce housing fits an LEA and to determine whether, when and how to take the next step.

Board member, superintendent, and senior administration leadership is essential for initiating and guiding an Education Workforce Housing initiative. From setting your vision and priorities to aligning resources and partnerships, governance teams play the central role in developing long-term strategic solutions to workforce challenges.
What participants receive
Participants leave the Bootcamp with a completed initial assessment workbook that includes a clear list of actionable next steps for continuing to explore this solution.

If an attendee is unable to make an event or make a substitution, the following applies:
- Up to five (5) business days prior to the event, with written notice, registrants may cancel for a full refund. Please send cancellation requests via email to register@csba.org. Telephone requests cannot be honored.
- Cancellations or transfers received within five (5) business days of the event are not eligible for a refund as preparations have been made on your behalf.
- There are no refunds for no-shows.
CSBA reserves the right to cancel any training event where the number of registrants does not meet our minimum requirement.
