Bob Caine
Retired, Kentfield School District
Bob Caine retired in July 2008 after 39 years in the Kentfield School District in Marin County. During his years in Kentfield, he served as a teacher, principal, Director of Business and Administrative Services, and for the last 29 years, as the Superintendent. He was the sole collective bargaining negotiator for the Board of Trustees from 1974 until the advent of interest-based bargaining in the district in 2007. Over the past 20 years, he co-chaired the Marin County Joint Legislative Advisory Committee, a consortium of Trustees and Superintendents advocating for issues affecting public education. Caine worked with staff, community members, parents and Trustees to build the Kentfield School District into one of the best in California, with model programs in academics, the arts and character education.
A CSBA Masters in Governance faculty member since 1998, he co-developed and teaches Foundations of Effective Governance and Governance Integration. He continues to work with the faculty development team to create new teaching tools and materials across all modules.
Over the past 35 years, Caine has served on a number of boards and governance teams, such as the Terwilliger Nature Education Center, the Red Cross, and for the past 10 years, the California Consortium of Educational Foundations. With CCEF, his major responsibility is to facilitate workshops throughout California training staff and parents to begin or revitalize local foundations.
